Everyone is Welcome in the Library

If you need a quiet place to relax for a moment during your lunch to work away from your classroom or office, visit the Library. Any class can schedule a visit to the library, not just ELA classes. If you want your students to have some reading material for down time or you want to use the Library space for a lesson, please reserve a time slot!

Morning Announcements and News Crew

LINK to Morning Announcements

If you are a club sponsor, coach, or have some class news you would like to share on the Morning Announcements, please email a script and any visual you would like to include to me 2 days ahead by 7AM. Our News Crew will record the announcement, then it will be included in the next announcement. Keep in mind that there are no announcements on Wednesdays and we some recording days are much busier than others. Teachers should get students quiet and play announcements during Advisory classes Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Support Literacy with the Library

Our students need our help when it comes to literacy. Children with access to a “literacy-rich home environment” are more likely to be successful in school; therefore must provide access to print resources for our students. One easy way to get books into students' hands and at home is to bring students to the library.

Encouraging everyone to check out a book during a visit has the potential to change a possible stigma there might be among students. If everyone in a class gets a book, then no one has to lose face or look “uncool” when they choose a book off the shelf. Feel free to model your interest in reading by checking something out for yourself.

When students check out a book, they should present their ID or write down their student ID number at the circulation desk and may check out up to 3 books.

Young Hoosier Book Award Nominees

Solid Square

The Young Hoosier Book Award Program encourages self-selected reading among students. YHBA nominees are chosen each year by a committee within the Indiana Library Federation. When you complete a Middle Grade YHBA nominee, you can rate the book!

Passes and Chromebook Loaners

Solid Square

If you are sending a student to the Library send them with a Yellow Library pass or a Blue pass and check the box for Library. The older blue passes will say IMC, but that will change when new passes are printed.

If students are in need of a Chromebook loaner for an assessment or test, please send them to the Library at the start of the period. Chromebook loaners will only be available during periods when students have an assessment to complete. When students finish the assessment, they should return to the Library with the loaner.

Copier etiquette

Solid Square

Make copies in person: Please make the trip to the copier so you don't hold up the line remotely. As a courtesy to the other staff members who are using their prep times and brief moments before or after school to wait on their copies, it is always best to print one set of your pages and then manually make your class copies in person so you don’t interrupt a job that is in progress. You can also send print jobs using the hold function: HOW-TO VIDEO HERE.

Refill paper: When you are done making copies, especially if it's 100 or more, please refill the paper in both bottom drawers so the next person has enough paper to continue. Remove colored paper when finished with any job.

Fix paper jams: If there is a paper jam, please try to fix it before you walk away. If you can’t, please ask for help.
